They say Kashi has a temple on every corner — and after a few days of walking, you'll believe it. Once you've had darshan at Vishwanath, here are the temples worth seeking out.
Sankat Mochan Hanuman Temple
Founded by the saint Tulsidas, this Hanuman temple is full of warmth, music and (famously) monkeys. The evening aarti here is joyful and local.
Durga Temple (Durga Kund)
A striking red temple beside a stepped tank, dedicated to the goddess Durga. Atmospheric and historic.
Tulsi Manas Mandir
A modern marble temple where the walls are inscribed with verses of the Ramcharitmanas. Peaceful and beautiful, right next to Durga Kund.
Kaal Bhairav
The fierce guardian deity of Kashi. Locals say you should pay your respects here — Bhairav is believed to be the kotwal, the protector, of the entire city.
Pace your temple visits. Two or three with full attention beat ten in a rush.
Each one adds another layer to the city. Take your shoes off, lower your voice, and let Kashi reveal itself slowly.
