Kartik Purnima can be a long day in Varanasi. Dev Deepawali is associated with this full-moon occasion, and the illuminated riverfront often becomes the main focus after dusk. Avoid packing every hour with attractions: rest makes the evening much more enjoyable.

Morning: begin near your stay

Walk to an accessible ghat and watch the city wake up. If you are considering a boat, confirm river conditions and the boarding point first. A temple visit may fit later in the morning, but queues and entry rules can change; consult the official Shri Kashi Vishwanath portal for temple information.

Afternoon: slow down

Eat early, recharge your phone and return to your hotel for a break. Arrange a meeting place and an exit route before leaving again. If walking is difficult for anyone in your group, choose a shorter approach rather than chasing several ghats.

Evening: pick one viewpoint

Enjoy the lamps without blocking stairs or river access. The programme, restrictions and date depend on the year; check official local notices. Our festival guide has a pre-departure checklist.
